It's happening — The Pokémon Company has announced the next Pokémon Presents showcase, which means we'll be dealing with a plethora of new details about the future of Pokémon.
Pokémon Presents August 2023 is the second presentation of the year, following the February 2023 showcase for the franchise's birthday. Here's everything we know about the upcoming showcase, including what time it starts, where to watch it, and what to expect during the show.
Pokémon Presents August 2023 Start Time
The August 2023 Pokémon Presents will be broadcast on Tuesday 8th August at 6am PST / 9am EST / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 11pm AEST.
The showcase will be 35 minutes long and will be focusing on Pokémon news and updates.
Pokémon Presents August 2023 Where To Watch
You'll be able to watch the Pokémon Presents on 8th August 2023 over on The Official Pokémon YouTube Channel.
We'll also be hosting the stream here at Nintendo Life, and we'll link you to our stream, which kicks off 30 minutes before the presentation, once it's live. You'll be able to watch the show with us and chat with us, and other readers, about all of the announcements as they happen.
Pokémon Presents August 2023 - What To Expect
We won't know exactly what will feature in the August 2023 Pokémon Presents showcase, but we think we can make a few pretty surefire guesses — and a few fun ones, too.In February 2023, for the franchise's anniversary Pokémon Presents, Pokémon Sleep made its grand return, we got the usual mobile, TCG, and World Championship updates, plus the brand new DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet — The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero — was officially announced.
We reckon that one or two of these things will most certainly be popping up during the stream, but we'll have to wait and see. Here are our thoughts, hopes, and dreams for the Pokémon Presents August 2023 showcase:
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - The Teal Mask DLC release date
If there's one announcement we expect will dominate the Pokémon Presents, its details of the upcoming DLC for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
With The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero broken into two parts, and part one — The Teal Mask — due out in Fall 2023, we expect we'll get a release date for The Teal Mask and all that malarkey during the Pokémon Presents. Not only that, we'll possibly get some hints as to what The Indigo Disk (part 2 of the DLC) will have in store for us.
Detective Pikachu Returns new gameplay footage
Announced during the June 2023 Nintendo Direct, Detective Pikachu Returns is bound to pop up during the showcase. And it should; let's give it its time in the limelight away from the Mario announcements.
That 6th October release date isn’t too far off, so we expect we'll get some gameplay footage or more details about what to expect from the game. What changes will it make from the first game?
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu 2 movie news?
Remember when Detective Pikachu wasn't just a video game? There's something about that teaser for the presentation that sparked the idea that we’ll get news of the Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie sequel.
The luminous neon brings to mind that movie’s logo, and given its success (not to mention that of the more recent Super Mario Bros. Movie), some sort of Detective Pikachu 2 teaser trailer or announcement wouldn’t be surprising – assuming development on the project hasn’t been totally paused by the ongoing Writers and SAG-AFTRA strike in the US.
Pokémon Concierge new trailer
We've had a few brief teasers for Pokémon Concierge, the lovely stop-motion show coming to Netflix this year. But we don't have a firm release date, or even much of an idea of what it's about beyind a young woman taking a job at a hotel for Pokémon.
Honestly, we just want to see more adorable-looking Pokémon — we can’t take our eyes off that fuzzy little Psyduck!
More TCG updates
Pokémon TCG Classic was announced during the last Pokémon Presents, and it still isn't out. So this is one set that will definitely feature for deck-building enthusiasts across the globe.
More Scarlet & Violet themed sets will likely be teased or announced during the showcase, and whatever other surprises the TCG has in store for us.
Pokémon anime news
We know when Ash's time in the Pokémon anime is coming to an end in the West — perhaps we'll get an official Ash Ketchum obituary?
All of that aside, another look at Pokémon Horizons: The Series is expected, even after we got some more English details during Comic Con a few weeks back.
Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch Online?
Honestly, we're no longer keeping our fingers crossed for the Game Boy/GBA classics to make their way over to Nintendo Switch Online, but there's got to be a shred of hope, right? We'd love to see Pokemon Red & Blue (and/or Yellow), Gold & Silver (or perhaps Crystal), Ruby & Sapphire (or Emerald) or even FireRed & LeafGreen — along with full trading functionality, and compatibility with Pokémon Stadium. It's a no-brainer, right?
However, there are some Pokémon games that are scheduled to be coming to the service — Pokémon Stadium 2 for N64 and Pokémon Trading Card Game on Game Boy Color are meant to be coming, so perhaps this is the time we get dates for them.
Pokémon Sleep updates?
This is a pretty safe bet, we think, but even so, if we hear the words “Coming soon to Pokémon Sleep…“, we're going to sleep. New Pokémon? A roadmap? New sleepstyles? There's got to be something for the lifestyle app... or perhaps just another lifestyle app itself.
A new Legends: Arceus-style game?
Now we're really pushing the boat out. While a brand new Pokémon game is possibly in the works — when isn't there after all — and part of us may have given up hope of wishing for another game in the style of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. But if we don't believe, then who will?
A better presentation than February 2023
We found February 2023's Pokémon Presents to be pretty disappointing, even given the swathe of announcements. the DLC news felt more like a footnote than an actual announcement.
All we can hope for is more actual concrete information. Fingers crossed.

Remember to go in with low expectations these have historically ended up being 90% mobile games
A new Legends game would be very welcome, but i'm not hopeful that it will launch on Switch given the recent talk of its successor
"Pokemon Presents" they forgot to add the word ***** to that title.
I am looking forward to the new Pokemon pikachu game. Hope someone gives him some coffee tho bc these have a tendency to be early.
@EaglyPurahfan
nope, I will predict 7 new games in the series and then get mad none of them happen. As is tradition.
The color scheme looks like Pokémon crystal main menu, maybe they’ll announce a remake??🤞or it’s probably just 7 star Mewtwo raid in Scarlet & Violet..😪🥱😑
@EaglyPurahfan you fool, Pokemon is a complex company full of surprise and awe.
I will be skipping this though #burnout
Would love to finally see some Pokemon GBC and/or GBA games on NSO.
Minus probably the adding old Pokémon games to switch online thing I actually agree with basically everything this article has said. I think release dates for both parts of the DLC and I think that could be like September 25th and November 28th respectively. All the shows and anime and stuff in its own section. Maybe a gameplay deep dive for Detective Pikachu. And yeah honestly maybe a tease for what’s next for Pokémon like another Arceus game. Like when they fully announced BDSP I think it went like this they honestly just went and said look at this: ARCEUS, MOON, POKÉMON LEGENDS ARCEUS. RELEASING 2023. And then later we got more info. I could see the same here.
I’m just happy that August 8th marks five years of King K. Rool in Smash Ultimate.
Pokemon presents next week it will be fun. Can Nintendo announce a New 3D Pokemon game? İt is possible. We have DLC still in the making for Scarlet and Violet. Nintendo can show that. What will Nintendo show else? İ think New 3D Pokemon game or something big will be announced.
New Pokemons for Unite is a given too.
I'm done with new mainline Pokemon games after the horrible S/V which was my first game in the franchise for which I didn't even bother to finish the main story due to how bad the game is (and I am not even talking about graphics or frame drops).
But I could get again into the GBA games if they are made available in the NSO subscription
Probably not going to be announced here but man would I be happy with another legends spin-off, I really, really enjoyed it and to have another one like it would be amazing! Another remake would be pretty cool too! Sadly, we’re probably just going to get Mobile and TCG news, and dlc glitchy and buggy mess of a game.
A new main game will probably not be announced here, not when they're still focusing on SV DLC. At best we'll get a teaser, but most likely an updated trailer for the DLC is going to be the finale.
The GB/GBA games would really make my day, although I've been considering trying some of the hacked rom versions too, lately.
The hope for Pokémon games on NSO is a long shot if I'm being realistic. I feel like we're mostly gonna get news and updates about the mobile games, some new info about the Scarlet/Violet DLC and we will be completely underwhelmed.
Trust me, I am among the group who does want to see the classic Pokémon games make their way to NSO, but I just don't see it happening. If anything, Pokémon would release them separately and charge for them.
I really want to see the Gen 1-3 games on Switch, but I hope they don't get monkey pawed onto the NSO service. I would rather buy them individually so that I don't lose access to them if I drop the subscription or NSO shuts down someday.
I get that I am part of the problem but I'm fine to buy them for a third time so I can play them on my Gameboys, 3ds, and Switch.
Can't wait for this Direct-length Presents to somehow still wind up being relatively uninteresting. Never bother watching these live so I can just skip to what's interesting. I am interested in seeing if the leaked Mystery Dungeon copyright from earlier this year amounts to anything, though, particularly if it's a new installment (since those games ride or die based on how much you love the stories, basically, and I'm too familiar with those of past entries to be interested in them)
@EaglyPurahfan needs a nostalgia montage going through all the generations they put every time.
current attitude towards pokemon is quality is really rough but at least it looks like they've been trying stuff. though i still hear about weird decisions like you can't refight the elite 4 anymore. is there a battle tower?
End of show.
I'd love another Legends-style game. It was the most engaging Pokemon release in years in my opinion, despite its faults.
hey guys I just came back from a day-long trip to Dublin what did I miss-
Well this was certainly a nice surprise to see pop up (even if it was very much expected). Not going into this with too many expectations/predictions myself other than a release date for, at the very least, the first wave of the DLC (maybe as a shadow-drop?), a couple of segments on the mobile titles and Detective Pikachu and, if we're lucky, either Pokemon on NSO or, my personal hope, a new Mystery Dungeon game. Very exciting stuff all around and I can't wait for Tuesday!
I want to see more Detective Pikachu Returns and I want to see Pokémon Stadium 2 coming Nintendo Switch Online and the earlier Pokémon games from Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Advance.
Hopefully they'll announce a 3 year break from making Pokemon games so they can release a finished product next time lol
I respect all game developers, the the higher ups don't give them enough time or man power. I would rather have no games for a while for their well-being.
I'll get the popcorn ready! Looking forward to the delicious bitter tears over Pokémon's continued success!
Pretty crazy we got/are getting Pokémon Sleep and Detective Pikachu Returns in the same year after so many naysayers had written them off as vaporware.
Hoping for just DLC showcase and smartphone apps if I'm honest xD
I hope the story remains strong in the DLC and the brings the level of character design/personality they brought in the base game. Say what you want about the game, and you'd be right, but love them or hate them I haven't rememebered every single gym leader like that since gen 2.
I don't at all expect a new GameFreak Pokemon game. Their focus for the time being is on the DLC for Scarlet and Violet.
I'm not saying it isn't possible that they have some different team on a different Pokemon game ready to reveal, but it is unlikely and I wouldn't bet on it.
hot take: it'll just be OK
We'll see some Pokemon.
All I want is Pokémon games on GB and GBA on Switch online. That might be asking too much right there.
"Official Ash Ketchum obituary"? Just because he's no longer the main character doesn't mean he's dead, ffs.
Ash's dad reveil.
All i care for is the Gameboy PM games being added to Switch online, would love to play Crystal and Emerald again but yeah i don't have high hopes.
@blindsquarel you forgot the fighters pass vol 3
@OwlHighway1Revisited The only surprise is how bad thuer hd games look
@ancientlii don’t get me wrong they definitely tried eith scarlet and violet and when it works the game can be enjoyable however just as you wouldn’t watch a 3 hour movie because 15 minutes is good you wouldn’t play scarlet and violet because it isn’t glitching out 1/10th of the time
I don’t think there has been a battle tower since before the 3Ds that feature has been long scrubbed from the franchise
I'm just hoping they are already making next gen main game of Switch 2 and its something more like Black/White. Gamefreak delivered quantity but not quality this gen. We already had like Lets go, Sword/Shield,Scarlet/ Violet, BD&SP Remake, Arceus. I think thats more than enough for one generation. They totally sold over 110 million units (with Snap and Mystery Dungeon)
They can do better
Pokemon Red/Blue/Green on NSO!! The possibility has been teasing us ever since Game Boy was added. I know they'll drip feed us, so I'm not expecting the GBA versions right away.
I actually want them to wait until next year when they can announce Pokemon Legends Celebi for the Switch 2!
@EaglyPurahfan
You’re right, thanks for the reminder. I’ll add it to the list.
@blindsquarel you also forgot totk when is it coming out anyways?
@EaglyPurahfan
We’re moving past TOTK, I’m expecting BOTW 7 deluxe to be released soon.
@blindsquarel it’s a launch title for the switch 2 pro it will have the first simulated smell add on so you can really know how a boblkin smells
Source; my uncle
Can't wait! Pokemon has been roll lately
Can't wait to see no mention of actually fixing SV's performance.
I wouldn't expect the announcement of a new game yet. This year is for de expansion of Scarlet & Violet and Detective Pikachu 2.
I'm most hopeful for a pokemon black // white // 2 remake announcement, plus a new legends arceus game to go with it. Legends Kyurem rumours have been floating around of course. But I doubt i'll be happy.
I think it's possible that we might get a gen 5 remake made by Ilco....(they have to be working on something right?)
I feel like a legends style game might be kept for the Pokemon direct in February of next year.
As for the dlc, I think there's no way that we won't have a concrete release date for The Teal Mask after tomorrow. Aside from a congo line of mobile tiles and Detective Pikachu coverage that's the thing I feel most confident in.
We will be getting a GameBoy game and that will be released at the end of the presentation: Pokémon Trading Card Game!
No way are we getting Red and Blue tomorrow. They might show them quickly and say releasing in 2024, at best. Nintendo are keeping Nintendo Switch Online for its next console so it's almost guaranteed that they will be drip feeding games for years to come.
There will also be a gameplay trailer for Pokémon Sleep to last 20 minutes, filling up the ~ 35 minutes nicely.
Also, a new app called Pokémon Wipe. After getting trainers exercising with Pokémon Go, dozing off with Pokémon Sleep, and getting those teeth sparkly white with Pokémon Smile, The Pokémon Company now brings you Pokémon Wipe, where you use your smartphone on a piece of toilet paper which transforms it into a Lickitung and well, you can imagine the rest! 🤣
I’m looking forward to a new Mystery Dungeon game.
I'm well aware I'm in the minority, but good God the Legends game is awful. I just find it more of a checklist of things to do than completing the first Pokédex ever. I enjoy the stinkers of the franchise, but if someone like me doesn't enjoy PLA, then there's no hope for it. There should have been a demo for it so we could've judged if we'd like it or not. I'd have saved the £40 I paid for it...
